What will it cost to become a member of The Mount Baw Baw Ski Patrol?
There is currently no fee applicable to become a ski patroller at Mount Baw Baw. We do have an annual levee of $25.
How many hours a week will I have to commit to?
Eligible ski patrollers at Mount Baw Baw will need to commit to a minimum of 6 weekends. This is comprised of 1 May training weekend and 5 on snow weekends per year. Variable hours as required to complete duties between the Queen’s Birthday weekend and the end of September Victorian School Holidays.
Who can join?
Anyone over the age of 18 years who has an interest in first aid, guest services and love for alpine areas.
What training is involved?
All volunteer patrollers first complete 1 year as a trainee. During this year, you learn the ins-and-outs of patrol life to see if it is for them and to see if we believe that you are a fit. At the completion of your trainee year, you will be required to complete the ASPA course. This is 30 hours online and 30 hours face-to-face.
Annual re-certification of the following competencies: CPR, AED, Oxygen, Penthrane and Entonox administration procedures is also required.
Are there any fitness/skill requirements?
There is no minimum fitness level required to become a ski patroller at Mount Baw Baw. Please be aware that Patrolling is a very physical job.
What do Ski Patrollers Do?
Ski patrollers duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Risk assessment and management
- First aide response
- Customer Service
What is the process for joining?
1. Complete the patroller application form
2. Complete trainee season
3. Complete ASPA Course
